The Editorial Board of the Journal of Clinical Sciences, the journal of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences of the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos, are excited to announce that the journal has now been included in the Emerging Science Citation Index (ESCI) and the Web of Science). This is a long and rigorous process and this success is a testament to the quality of publications in our journal and the thorough process of the editorial procedures followed by the Editorial Board and the reviewers.
The Clarivate website[1] describes the Web of Science (of which ESCI is part) process as follows: "The robust evaluation and curation of our data make the Web of Science Core Collection™ the world's most trusted publisher-independent global citation database. Curated by an expert team of in-house editors, the Web of Science Core Collection is a trusted, high-quality, definitive database for journals, books and conference proceedings."
Inclusion in the ESCI is the first step to having the journal Journal Citation Reports and ultimately the assignment of impact factor. Although we see these coming to pass in the horizon, we hope it shall come to fulfilment sooner than later. The Editorial Board is working assiduously to also ensure we get the PubMed to index the journal and we thank all authors, reviewers and editorial board members for their hard work without which the journal could not have achieved its current accomplishments.
This issue of the journal has some interesting manuscripts for your reading pleasure. Dr Abdessa from Ethiopia investigated the risk factors for new-onset heart failures with reduced or preserved ejection fraction in a cohort of 228 patients.[2] Their data suggest that age, sex, diabetes mellitus, large atrial size, and diastolic left ventricular dimension all have a role to play in new-onset heart failures in patients with ischemic heart disease.
Dr Agabi et al. from Lagos compared the interrelationship of hyperglycemia and acute ischemic stroke on one hand and intracerebral hemorrhage on the other in 170 patients.[3] Their study showed that while hyperglycemia at admission is associated with stroke severity and case fatality in acute ischemic stroke, these were not so with intracerebral hemorrhage.
Other interesting original research works including a case report complete the menu for the current issue which I hope you will find interesting.
